Prevention Education Works!

Programming
Education programs are offered to all age groups.  The Center has a special commitment to reach traditionally underserved populations of adults and children.  Programming includes the following topics:
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Date Rape and Date Rape Drugs
  • Personal Safety and Awareness
  • Building Healthy Relationships
  • Helping Survivors
  • Educating adults in the lives of children about Child Sexual Abuse
  • Male Involvement in Ending Sexual Violence

We also try to accommodate special requests for topics not listed here.  Programs vary in length depending upon the needs of the organization.

Curriculum-Based Education

The following programs are typically completed in schools over a three day period, though the programming is very adaptable to after-school programs, DJJ and DFCS youth groups, and others.  Most schools require permission from their school board to set up this programming:

  • Hands Off:  Sexual Harassment for 7th and 8th graders
  • Expect Respect:  Sexual Assault Awareness for 9th graders

We work to ensure that our programs are appropriate for both developmental and cultural differences and that they are relevant to our participants.

Mission of the Education Program

Statistics tell us taht everyone is at risk for sexual violence.  The education program at the Center provides free sexual assault prevention programming and information for community groups, agencies, schools, youth groups, and other organizations.  The programming teaches youth and adults to recognize sexual violence, support survivors, foster healthy relationships, and promote awareness in their lives and the lives of others.  The education staff at the Center is committed to ending sexual violence by inspiring change in individuals and working to make whole communities safer.
